Anyway for this post i wanted to write something that i don't think you guys knew about..Or maybe you did..in my ignorant state of mind.might have overlooked that fact..but let me go on..ok ok..you guys remember that movie Black hawk down?..The one where the copter crashes in Somalia and a gun fight ensues for like 2 days?..you guys remember??..The one were the Americans, are as usual,dubbed the heroes and the Somalians the bad guys?..so yeah anyway..that movie was based on a true story..Like a real life one..(duh roshan!)..but here is where it gets interesting..the movie was NOT AT ALL like the true story...here's the jest of it..
A group of American troops accompanied by their night copter team,the black hawks(it's a helicopter team ok,not black birds the size of planes) were on their way to kill some Somalians or something,faithfuls loyal to the crazy warlord chap,Mohamed Farrah aidid(he's the bad guy)..so yeah the Americans thought they would kick some black ass and win right..like how they did in Nam,oh wait, thats right they DIDN"T!!.so anyway.being American they said "lets get em boys"..and decided it would be a piece of cake..sadly,their blind confidence did not do them any good..(as usual)..and their convoy,due to wrong gps coordinates.were broken up and they ended up in the Somalians stronghold..so when the Somalians sniffed the air and caught a whiff of white boys.the decided to attack them..and my oh my it was grand..the helicopter teams thought they'd shoot some black men and get it over with,but the Somalians RPGed(rocket propelled grenade) their asses..thus During the operation, two U.S. UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were shot down, and three others were damaged. Some of the soldiers were able to evacuate wounded back to the compound, but others were trapped at the crash sites and cut off. An urban battle ensued throughout the night. Early the next morning, a combined task force was sent to rescue the trapped soldiers.
And yes,unlike the movie in real life,the combined task force were made up of MALAYSIANS.PAKISTANI and AMERICAN teams..these 3 teams were sent to rescue the others..see in the movie,NO Malaysians or even Pakistanis were ever mentioned..jackasses man..so yeah anyway,They assembled some 100 vehicles, including Pakistani tanks (M48s) and Malaysian Condor armored personnel carriers, and were supported by U.S. A/MH-6 Little Bird, and UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. This task force reached the first crash site and led the trapped soldiers out. The second crash site was overrun and pilot Mike Durant, the lone surviving American from that site, was taken prisoner but later released..a bunch of Somalis were killed,estimated around 1000-1500..and sadly, Eighteen American soldiers and among the UN forces, one Malaysian soldier died; seven Malaysians and two Pakistanis were wounded..I'd like to mention the soldier's name,Mat aznan awang.who died in the battle when an RPG hit his windscreen and exploded..he was posthumously awarded the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa.Malaysians highest award for bravery...He was part of malaysia's very own commando unit GRUP GERAK KHAS..May his soul rest in piece..
SO yeah,the next time when you think Malaysian forces are chumps..well take a second to think about the Battle of Mogadishu 1993..have a good day ya'll..
